2 Hour Coastal Wildlife Sea Trip
A fantastic wildlife tour in and around the Sound of Linnhe this trip has everything.
Visiting remote landscapes and islands this is our most popular trip and offers a unique experience with spectacular scenery. A truly memorable way to discover the natural wealth of Lochaber’s coastal wildlife and rugged beauty.
From Ballachulish, we explore in more detail the folklore of Glencoe which is known for its rich history with chilling memories of the Glencoe Massacre echoing around its glens. In more recent times the filming of Harry Potter has created interest in the area.
A small group of islands known as the Burial Islands are full of historic tales and folk legend and are a haven for wildlife, nesting terns, herons, otters and much more.
We visit the salmon farm and the seal islands then head further out to open sea were there are greater chances of seeing different species of sea life in the water including common seal, atlantic grey seal, harbour porpoise (small dolphins) and otter.
Accessible only by boat we also take in the island of Balnagowan – a peaceful haven for nesting birds.
On the mainland and islands spot the red deer, fallow deer, feral goats along with some surprising smaller animals and vegetation.
In the air many species of seabirds are common but we keep a close lookout for buzzard, golden eagle and increasingly the white tailed sea eagle has been a regular sighting! The sea eagle is one of the largest and rarest sea birds – a truly inspiring sight to behold.
